About Project CINTAI

Welcome to CINTAI - Your Partner in Health and Inclusivity

Project CINTAI is a research study designed to improve HIV testing and linkage to care services for members of sexual and gender minority groups in Malaysia. Funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Project CINTAI is a collaboration between the Universiti Malaya’s Centre of Excellence for Research in AIDS, the University of Connecticut, and Yale University. Our mission is to make a positive impact on the lives of members of sexual and gender minority groups in Malaysia by addressing the challenges they face in accessing HIV testing and support services.

Who can participate?

  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
  • They must either be a cisgender man who has sex with men or a transgender woman.
  • Their HIV status must be negative or unknown.
  • They must own or have access to a computer, tablet or internet-based smartphone.
  • They must be able to provide informed consent and understand English or Bahasa Malaysia.

What will I be asked to do?

You will be asked to complete an online screening to determine your eligibility for the study. If you are eligible, you will be asked to provide your contact details so we can contact you. We will then contact you to obtain your consent to participate. Once you consent, you will complete an online screening before being given access to the website. You will then complete an in-website risk assessment and be provided with information from us regarding how to use the website and its features. The features will allow you to order an HIV self-testing kit, have a pre and post counselling session with a trained counsellor regarding HIV testing, and access other support services (e.g., mental health screening, harm reduction screening). You may be surveyed in 3 months and 6 months from the initial usage of the website regarding your opinion of the website’s features.

How do I enroll?

Please fill out our form here and a member of the research team will contact you within 2 business days.
